Swan View

This project is an example of "period correcting", in which mid-century sensibilities are being retrofitted back into this 1959 ranch style home, including simple shillouettes paired with some fun light fixtures and hardware. The color palette is organic and consists of warm wood tones, and muted blues and greens throughout,

Main Living Area

The main living area had the dingiest wall-to-wall, blue carpet, 80's wallpaper, and an absolute monolith of a double sided, mirrored fireplace. Refacing the fireplace in natural fieldstone tile and adding a mantle give the structure a touch of an organic quality, to offset the overbearing rectangle in the room, as well as a nod to mid-century materials. Adding faux beams for interest on the ceiling, and recessing can lights into them. A built-in unit in the dining area serves as extra storage for china, bar items, etc. since the kitchen space is limited. Arches added to the doorways between the living space and kitchen.

Kitchen

As galley kitchens go, this is a tricky one, the stairwell to the basement takes up about a quarter of the room. the plan is to box in the stairwell, and add a door, to seperate the stairs from the kitchen. As for the design itself, leaning into mid-century-modern styling with sleek cabinetry, built-in appliances, and warm wood tones. Gorgeous speckeled blue-green tiles on the backsplash pair nicely with the natural blue-green countertop stone, and a white terrazzo floor tile brightens the space. Tongue and groove on the ceiling for added natural warmth.

Bath

Since this bath was relatively recently redone, to save on budget, the tile will remain, and all plumbing to remain as well. Simply switching out the large mirror for some arched medicine cabinets over each sink, and switchinging out an overhead vanity light for sconces. Also adding in a niche for towel storage, changing the trim from white to stained, and giving the walls a fresh coat of paint.
